Windows Spotlight Wallpaper Not Changing

Windows Spotlight is a feature included with Windows 10 which uses Bing to download and set the new background images automatically on the Lock screen for keeping your experience every time once you sign in.

The only issue with Windows Spotlight is that sometimes it is going to stop working, or you are going to notice that it gets stuck on the same image. It means that your Windows Spotlight wallpaper cannot change. You have to know that unfortunately Windows 10 does not include the great option to reset this feature. But, it is very possible for you to fix the Windows Spotlight settings with this simple solution.


In this article, we are going to share how to fix Windows Spotlight on your computer and keep getting fresh images from Bing on your Lock screen. If the Windows Spotlight feature is stuck on the same image or not changing, so you are able to do the following steps to fix the problem:

  • At the first step, you have to open Settings.
  • Then, please click on Personalization.
  • After that, click on Lock screen.
  • Under “Background”, you have to ensure that Windows Spotlight is not selected and change the option to Picture or Slideshow.
  • Now, you have to use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command.
  • Please type the following path:

%USERPROFILE%/AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets. Do not forget to click “OK”.

  • You need to select all the files (Ctrl + A) and hit the Delete key to clear all old images.
  • You can use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run command again.
  • Please, type the following path to where the Windows Spotlight settings are stored.

%USERPROFILE%/AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\Settings. And then click OK.

  • In this step, you can right-click settings.dat and roaming.lock individually, then click Rename and name them settings.dat.bak and roaming.lock.bak.
  • Just restart your computer.
  • Afterwards, you have to open Settings.
  • Please, click on Personalization.
  • Then, click on Lock screen.
  • Under “Background”, please ensure to enable Windows Spotlight.
  • When you complete these steps, you are able to lock your computer and the Lock screen should show new Bing images.

Now, you can go back to the Settings folders where Windows Spotlight stores the settings and remove the settings.dat.bak and roaming.lock.bak files.

In other case, if the steps mentioned above cannot fix Windows Spotlight, you are able to try to reset the settings by using the following steps:

  • Firstly, you have to open Settings.
  • Then, click on Personalization.
  • After that, you can click on Lock screen.
  • Under “Background”, you must ensure to enable Windows Spotlight.
  • Please, open Start.
  • Now, you need to search for Windows PowerShell. Then, right-click the result, and do not forget to select Run as administrator.
  • In this step, you have to enter the following command:

Get-AppxPackage -allusers- ContentDeliveryManager-|foreach{Add-AppxPackage “$($_.InstallLocation) \appxmanifest.xml”-DisableDevelopmentMode-register}. Then, press Enter button to reset the Windows Spotlight.

  • Just restart your computer.
  • After you complete these steps, you should be able to lock your computer and the Lock screen should show new Bing images.
