How Many Cells Are in the Human Body?

All living beings are created up of cells. Several of them are created up of only one cell, while others have many cells. Generally, the average adult human body has about 37.2 trillion cells. Of course, that is a lot of cells. In fact, cells are so many, that it is very hard to imagine. Now, let us try to imagine it. If we lined up all the cells in our human body end to end, could that line achieve around the Earth? If so, how many times?

An adult human body is created up of approximately 37.2 trillion cells. If we were able to put all of those cells end to end, how many times do you think they could circle the Earth? Based on the research, cells got their name from an Englishman called Robert Hooke in the year 1665. He first saw and give named cells while he was experimenting with a new instrument that now we call a Microscope. For his experiment, he cut really thin slices from cork. He looked at those slices under a microscope. Later, he saw tiny box-like shapes. Those tiny boxes reminded him of the plain small rooms which monks lived in called cells.

What Are Cells Made From?

Try to look around at your house and nearby houses. They are created from smaller building materials such as bricks, wood, and cement. Likewise the cars in the street and bike you ride. In fact, everything is created from building blocks including living things.

What Are the Building Blocks of Cell Like?

If you look at your home, you are going to notice that it is enclosed by outer walls. All cells are enclosed within something named a plasma membrane. Of course, the plasma membrane is not similar with the wall in your house. But, the plasma membrane does hold parts of a cell inside. Those parts of the cell are what biologists named Organelles. It is a Latin name for little organs. Occasionally, people think that cells as a balloon filled with fluid. It is not true as a balloon does not allow things move in and out, like the membrane of a cell. It is vital for cells to be able to move materials in and out of the cell.

In fact, The plasma membrane in cells have unique structures which let water and other food materials to pass in and out of the cell. At lots of places across its surface, the plasma membrane holds the gatekeeper structures named channels and pores. Those channels let things to move in and out of the cell. But, not everything is able to pass in and out of the cell freely. The cells only let those things which are necessary for them to function.

Cells are really amazing. They are all created of similar building blocks, however they do lots of different things depending on how they are programmed. Several cells carry Oxygen to parts of our body. While other cells defend against invading bacteria and viruses. There are cells which transmit signals throughout the body like the signals from your eyes to your brain while you are reading this page. Even, some cells are able to convert the sun’s energy into food. It is called photosynthesis. Apparently, there are hundreds of jobs which cells can do. Also, Cells are able to make other cells in a process named cell division. It is something other building blocks cannot do.

How each building block is made from yet a small set of building blocks

  • Biosphere

Earth is created up of all living and non living things. The interaction of all those building blocks make up the biosphere.

  • Biomes

The different environments on Earth are all special, however there is a way for us to group areas by habitat type. Those are called biomes.

  • Ecosystems

All the animals and plants in an area, plus the non-living things around them make up an ecosystem. Ecosystems are able to be various sizes.

  • Communities

All plants and animals that live in one place are considered as a community. This will be tricky once you include humans, as they are able to move from community to community.

  • Populations

All the individuals of one species that live are called a population. So, individuals become the building blocks for a species.

  • Individuals

Individual people consist of the population. Each person has their own individual characteristics which cause diversity within a population.

  • Organs and Tissues

The human body is made up of organs. In humans, those are the brain, kidneys, liver, heart, etc.

  • Cells

Tissues are made of cells. The cell is the smallest unit of life. Meaning that the cell is the smallest living thing which is able to replicating.

  • Organelles

Also, cells are made up of individual parts. The interior of any cell has lots of types of little organs named organelles, such as the mitochondria, nucleus, Golgi complex, etc.

  • Proteins, Carbohydrates, Fats and Nucleic Acids

All the cellular organelles are made of macromolecules like Lipids, carbohydrates, Proteins, and Nucleic acids.

There are 92 naturally occurring atoms. Also it called as the elements), but only 11 of these atoms are discovered in a significant amount in living things. It takes only two atoms to create a molecule.
