Spotlight Not Working Windows 10

Windows Spotlight is one of the features in Windows 10 that can download pictures and advertisements automatically from Bing and then it will display the pictures when the lock screen is being shown on a computer that runs Windows 10. If you have never seen it but you use Windows 10, you need to set it first.

How to enable Windows Spotlight? It is super easy because you just have to change your Lock Screen background in your personal settings. Here are the steps to enable Windows Spotlight in Windows 10.

  • The very first thing that you need to do is clicking the Start button.
  • After clicking Start button, now you have to hit the Gear icon in the Start Button in the Start Menu when it appears.
  • Then, click on Personalization.
  • After that, click on Lock Screen in the left hand navigation menu.
  • In this menu, there will be a drop down menu under background. So, choose Windows Spotlight in this drop down menu.


You may have enabled Windows Spotlight but it does not work. If it happens to you, it means that it must be something wrong with it and you have to fix it as soon as possible. One of the problem is sometimes Windows Spotlight is stuck on the similar picture. So, how to fix this issue?

How to fix Windows Spotlight which does not work?

There are several ways that you can try to fix it. You can try to fix it by using the first method, if it does not work, you can go to the next method.

  • Turn on Internet Connection

To make the images appear, you have to make sure that you have a working internet connection because Windows Spotlight features requires an active internet connection to show new wallpaper on the lock screen.

  • Re-register Spotlight App

To do this, you have to run Command Prompts as administrator. To run this, you can type CMD in search box from Start and then right click on Command Prompts on the top. Then, click Run as administrator. After that, click Yes when prompted by the User Account Control. Then, you have to type these commands:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

powershell

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -Like “*SystemApps*”} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

On your keyboard, you have to hold down the Windows logo key and then hit L to see whether Windows Spotlight works.

  • Use File Explorer

You have to disable Windows Spotlight feature in Settings app. To do this, hit Windows logo key on your keyboard and then hit I to open the settings window and click Personalization. Now, select Picture or Slideshow to be background under Lock Screen pane. After that, hold down the Windows logo key and hit E to bring up the Windows File Explorer. Click Show/hide under View pane and then tick on Hidden items. Now, you have to go to C:\Users\ <USERNAME>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_<Package ID>\LocalState\Assets

In Assets folder, choose all the files and click Delete under Home pane. Now, you can enable Windows Spotlight feature in Settings app. Then, hold down the Windows logo key and hit L on your keyboard to see whether Windows Spotlight works.
