How to Reset Windows Spotlight

If Windows Spotlight is not working or it is stuck in with the same image, you are able to follow these following instructions in order to clean the downloaded images and reset the settings to get the feature working again.

In order to disable Windows Spotlight on Windows 10, the first thing that you have to do is to open Settings. Then, click on Personalization. The next thing that you have to do is to click on Lock screen. After that, use the “Background” drop down menu and choose the Picture or Slideshow option.

Once you complete all the steps, you are able to proceed with the steps below to clear the assets, reset the settings, and re-enable the Windows Spotlight. If you want to delete the images that already locally stored on your device, here are the steps that you have to follow:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Look for Run and click the top result.
  3. Type the following path and click the OK button: %USERPROFILE%/AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets
  1. Choose all the files by pressing Ctrl+A and press the Delete key to clear the old images (if applicable).


After you complete those steps, please proceed the steps below in order to reset the Windows Spotlight settings. To reset the Windows Spotlight settings on Windows 10, there are five steps that you have to follow. First, open Start. Second, search for Run and click the top result. Fifth, restart the computer.

Once everything is done, the last step that should be done is to re-enable the Windows Spotlight using the Settings app. In order to enable the this feature, first of all, you need to open Settings. Then, click on Personalization. In the next step, you have to click on Lock screen. The last one is to use the “Background” drop down menu and choose the Windows Spotlight option. After doing all the steps, you are able to test that Windows Spotlight is working correctly by locking your device and making sure that the new images rotate in the background each time you log in.

As the alternative, you are also able to rest Windows Spotlight using a thing called PowerShell. Just like the method above, there are three stage of using this method. The first one is disabling Windows Spotlight feature. To do this, here are the steps:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Press on Personalization.
  3. Press on Lock screen.
  4. Use the “Background” drop down menu and choose the Picture or Slideshow option.

The second one is resetting Windows Spotlight settings. To solve the issue, you have to open Start first. Then, search for PowerShell, right click the top result, and choose “Run as administartor” option. Next, type the command and press Enter. Finally, restart the computer.

The last one is enabling Windows Spotlight. To do this, here are the steps. First, open Settings. Second, click on Personalization. Third, click on Lock screen. fourth, use the “Background” drop down menu and choose Windows Spotlight.
