How to Fix Problems Signing in to the Xbox App

The Xbox app on Windows 10 allows you to do a lot of things, especially if you have the console. Some people love streaming it on their PC when they are too lazy to go to their console. The story is different if there is a problem signing in to the Xbox app, it will not be fun at all.

If you cannot sign into your Xbox account, there are lots of possible reasons. Everything depends on what kind of issue you are facing. Here are some common scenarios and the methods to solve the issues. Keep in mind that any method that you follow will allow you to go off your Microsoft account or Gamertag details. All the things are stored in the cloud, meaning they are all safe.

Method 1: Sign in issue

The first one is called sign in issue. This one is the first check that you have to do. For those who have changed your password recently, it could be bothering you from signing in the Xbox app. If there is an issue with the password, you will be prompted about it. So, the only option that you have is to input the right password or reset it in case you have forgotten it.

Method 2: Clear the cache of the appĀ 

You need to clear the app cache if you do not get a clear message and everything is just stuck. There are two options to do it. Both of them require you to sign in again.

If you want to manually delete the Xbox Live cache, first of all, type %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XboxLive in the run prompt and then hit the Enter key. When it is done, locate AuthStateCache.dat and delete it. If there is any other one, please remove them all as well. After that, relaunch the Xbox app and sign in.

If you want to delete via the Windows Settings, the first thing that you have to do is to open Windows Settings by pressing Win + I. Then, navigate to Apps > Apps and features. The next thing that should be done is to locate the Xbox Live app and click on the Advanced Options which shows up when you choose it. After that, press on the Reset button. The last thing that you need to do is to launch the app and sign in.

Method 3: Restart the Xbox services


Xbox runs its own set of services, just like any other apps. If the issue is done by the simple glitch, it could be fixed by restarting the services once. In order to restart the service, you can type the service.msc in the Run prompt followed by the Enter key. As of now, there are four Services that you are able to restart. Those include Xbox Accessory Management service, Xbox Live Auth Manager, Xbox Live Game Save, and Xbox Live networking service. Feel free to right click on any of them and then select to restart.

Method 4: Set time to change automatically


In the situation when you have changed the settings to manual or the software has changed it and it’s running late, then you will not be able to use the Xbox app and many other apps. In this case, you can try to click on the Start button > Settings > Time & language. Below Date & time, be sure to turn on the Set time automatically. Apart from that, you can also turn on Time Zone if you want to adjust automatically. If you moved to a region, it can be the cause of the issue.

Method 5: Remove Microsoft account


The last method that you can try is to remove the account related to the Xbox from Windows 10. You might want to use multiple Microsoft accounts and if you are using a different one, it is no problem at all. If it is the only account, then you have no chance to remove it unless you convert it into a local account, and then make it a Microsoft account again.

If you currently have two accounts and are using all of them, please follow these instructions. Firstly, head to Settings > Accounts. Then, find the one Microsoft account that you used to sign in to the Xbox app and then choose Remove. On the next step, launch the Xbox app and sign in with the Microsoft account that you just removed.

Method 6: Install the missing updates


Windows 10 is a good operating system, but sometimes some bugs and issues can occur. For those who are not able to sign in to the Xbox account on your PC, you might be able to fix the issue by installing the newest updates. For your information, Windows 10 automatically installs the updates in the background by default, but sometimes you might miss a vital update. Fortunately, you can always check for updates manually pressing Windows Key + I to open the Setting app. When it opens, go to Update & Security. After that, click on Check for updates button. Doing so will make Windows checking for available updates and download them in the background. Once everything is installed, please check if the issue is still there. Some people reported that updating the Windows solved the issue for them, so you are recommended to try that. Aside from updating Windows, make sure to update the Xbox app as well.

Method 7: Use command prompt


If you cannot sign in to an Xbox account on Windows 10, the problem might be caused by service host separation. However, it can be easily fixed by simply running a single command in the command prompt. First, press Windows Key + X to open the Win + X menu. second, choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the list. If it is not available, you can also use PowerShell (Admin). Once the program starts, run the command: REG ADD HKLMSYSTERMCurrentCOntrolSetServicesXblAuthManager /v SvcHostSplitDIsadble /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f. In the end, restart your PC and check if the issue still exists.
