Are you currently facing the wsappx high disk usage issue? If the answer to the question is yes, here are some methods to fix the wsappx high disk and CPU usage for you to choose from. Try the first one and move to another if one does not help.

Method 1: Disable Windows Store

There are two options of disabling Windows Store. The first one is using a Group Policy Editor and the second one is using a Registry Editor. If you want to use the first one, you will have to press Windows key and R at the same time to open the Run dialog box. In this step, type “gpedit.msc” and hit the OK button. Doing so will open the Local Group Policy Editor window on your computer. then, click Computer Configuration and then select Administrative Templates. On the next step, click Windows Components and also select Store. Find the Turn Off Store application setting located in the right pane. Once it is found, click the Enable option. Lastly, choose the Apply button.

Apparently, not every version of Windows has the Group Policy Editor. If you do not have one as well, do not worry as you are able to disable the Windows Store through the Registry Editor. Before anything, take a note that making changes in Registry Editor is recommended only when you are comfortable using it and have first made a back-up copy, which allows you to restore the Registry to its prior condition in case if the changes made lead to unforeseen errors if you do something wrong.

To be able to backup the registry, type “regedit” in the start search box and press Enter. If something named User Account Control windows pops up, hit the Y button. After that, right click Computer in the left pane and choose Export. In the Export Registry file window, name the file to the one that you want and then click the Save button.

Once you have created a backup, browser to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\WindowsStore key in the left pane. Now you need to make a new DWORD value in Windows Store Key. Please name the new one RemoveWindowsStore and set the value as 1. When it is done, restart the Windows. Aside from that, you can also use the workaround: HKLM system\CurrentControlSet\Services AppXSvc Key start dword value + 4.

For your information, disabling Windows Store means you can no longer install the third-party apps or update them. If you want to try to launch the app, you will get the error message displayed on the screen.

Method 2: Update device drivers

Some high CPU issues occur because of faulty or incompatible drivers. In this case, you are recommended to update your device drivers. The easiest and fastest method to do this is by using a reliable and user-friendly driver update software tool. The most recommended one to use is called DriverDownloader. This one is recommended because it is fast, reliable, and easy to use. Feel free to download the tool, install, and run it for free. When you use DriverDownloader, you will get a free drivers report. You will need to register it if you get the automatic driver updates. You will get customer support, as well as a 30-day money back guarantee when you register.

Method 3: Increase virtual memory

Some people have been able to fix the issue by increasing the virtual memory. If you are interested to try it, please follow these steps. First, type “performance” in the search bar and press Enter. Second, click Adjust Appearance vs Performance in Windows. Third, click the Advanced tab. Fourth, click Virtual Memory. Fifth, click Change. Sixth, deselect the checkbox against Automatically manage paging file size for all drives. Seventh, select the drive on which you have the Windows installed and then press on the Custom size. Eighth, set Initial Size the same as your RAM. Do not forget to set the size in MB. After that, set the Maximum Size as two times as the Initial Size. Ninth, click the set button and then hit OK and reboot Windows.

Method 4: Complete a virus scan

Malware or virus infection might be the culprit of the high CPU usage issue. If you have not scanned your system for viruses for some time now, do it now. Doing a complete system scan is recommended. If the scan reports any suspicious programs, please remove or quarantine them without any delay and then restart Windows.

Method 5: Complete a disk check

Disk check is worth trying for those who have just started getting the wsappx high disk and CPU usage issue. However, take a note that the disk check takes some time to complete. If you want to run it, you may not be able to use your computer for a while. If you want to run the disk check, you will have to press Windows key and X at the same time. After that, choose Command Prompt (Admin). If you see the User Account Control prompt window on your screen, click Yes. Type chkdsk.exe /f /r in the command prompt window. The last step is to press Enter and type Y so that Windows runs disk check when the computer restarts.

Method 6: Perform a clean boot state

If the issue still exists, the last effort is to do a clean boot. When you do it, Windows will run just the essential startup programs and driver sets. It will allow you to isolate the problematic startup program manually if the issue is being caused by one of the startup programs. To clean the boot state, you need to click the Windows key and R simultaneously to launch the run dialog box. When it runs, type msconfig and hit Enter. Choose Selective startup in the System Configuration window. Please uncheck the box before Load Startup Items and choose the boxes before the Use Original boot configuration and Load System Services.
